Power is changing hands from the old guard in both the Congress and the BJP

Whatever the outcome of the general election, one thing is certain: power is slowly and surely shifting from the old guard in both principal parties. If in the Congress, often accused of dynastic politics, the generational change is a conscious process set in motion by the elevation of Rahul Gandhi as vice-president on January 19, 2013, in the Bharatiya Janata Party camp, the shift was signalled by Narendra Modi’s nomination as the prime ministerial candidate.
