Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read," Groucho Marx, the literal genius, infamously quipped. Too bad he did not have a backlit Kindle or hi-res iPad in which he could have carried a whole library - and not just a book - into the belly of the beast and emerge a wisercrack. Those devices came some three decades after Marx passed, heralding dog days for both books and libraries as the master of nonsequiturs knew them. Not that he would have been impressed, because "whatever it is, he was against it."
