Ill- Informed opposition to retail FDI

Most criticism of and opposition to the government’s decision to permit 51 per cent FDI in multi- brand retail is pathetic in its ignorance. The very fact that both the Left and the BJP are mouthing the same platitudes should make it evident that the case against the government’s decision is based on the worst kind of ideological opportunism, rather than any knowledge of the enormous weaknesses in India in the supply chain, especially in the case of agricultural produce, and more particularly in the case of perishables.
