Quizzed by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on why he endor-sed the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) document pegging the loss in the 2G case at Rs 1.76 lakh crore if he disagreed with the figure, the reply of R P Singh - former director general in the CAG`s office - was simple. He is said to have told the JPC that he did it as "an obedient government servant". It would seem the fundamental problem with this country is not the evil politi-cian, but precisely the `obedient government servant`.
