Pavements in a big city aren't made of Gold

Economic growth is expected to create a growing skilled and educated urban population, especially in the metropolis. But the latest 2011 Provisional Census numbers do not quite bear this out. The 2011 census shows that when it comes to literacy, fast- growing cities have a lower literacy rate than smaller ones. Hyderabad is behind Raipur, and Chennai behind Nagpur and Ahmedabad; why even Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ranchi and Surat, to name a few, have better literacy figures than Delhi. This is interesting, as the fastest growing urban agglomeration in recent years has been the area around the Capital.
