China goes toe-to-toe against US in talks that signal its arrival on world stage as an equal

Nearly three and-half hours of virtual talks on Monday between US President Joe Biden and China’s leader Xi Jinping yielded no striking breakthrough aside from a broad acknowledgement that the two sides had many differences and were bound to be competitors, but they should try and ensure the situation does not spiral into a war, cold or hot. Forget breakthrough, the two sides did not even issue a joint statement as is customary on such occasions.
