Will set up statutory body to curb farm fires: Centre to SC

In what will be the first instance of an anti-pollution law for a specific region in the country, the Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that it was drafting a comprehensive legislation to set up a statutory body empowered to take steps to prevent stubble burning in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh as also implement measures to reduce air pollution in the National Capital Territory (NCR) and adjoining areas.
