Reforming JNNURM
With India’s urban population projected to grow nearly three-fourths in the next two decades, it’s not surprising the urban development ministry is moving to get the Cabinet’s nod for the R16,000-20,000 crore per annum JNNURM 2.0. While several new ideas may find their way into the new version, it would be instructive to recollect what the high-powered committee on India’s urban infrastructure needs had to say about JNNURM 1.0—R65,000 crore was allocated over 7 years under this scheme.
