Even as the ink has barely dried on the Land Acquisition Bill - which covers acquisition of land for public-private partnerships and by private parties for public use - the idea of sale of surplus government land is being contemplated. This idea was recently mooted by the Vijay Kelkar-led committee as one of the suggestions to narrow the country's widening fiscal deficit.
