Urban ignominy

The unimpressive rankings of India's top two metros, in the State of the World Cities Report brought out by the United Nations, bring into focus once again poor conditions of life in urban India. While Delhi was ranked 58 among 85 cities, Mumbai fared a little better in the 52th position. Our biggest metros fail to meet even the needs of our emerging economy, let alone catch up with First World standards to which we aspire.
