Another hydra head

Unshackled corruption is just one of the many hydra heads that threaten to rip apart the social and political fabric of the nation. As three recent developments in Punjab show, another is no less monstrous. There is a calibrated design by some elements, based both in the state and abroad, to give a new lease of life to one of the most tragic periods in the history of independent India: that of the extremist Khalistani movement that ultimately led to Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984 and the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
