Can the incident of rioting at the Masuri Police Station in Ghaziabad near the national capital earlier this month be seen in isolation? The violence in Assam, the rioting in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan where the police were targeted, the use of social networking sites to promote communal hatred and create a countrywide fear psychosis, and the worldwide protests against some crazy anti-Islamic film that led to the death of the American Ambassador to Libya — all add up.
