Tarun Gogoi can’t gloss over illegal immigration

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's recent statement blaming illiteracy among Muslims for that community's high birth rate that has, in turn, changed the State's demography, is only the latest in the Congress regime’s efforts to deflect attention from the core issue of illegal immigration. In an interview to a private television channel on Sunday, Mr Gogoi said, and vehemently so, that the increase in the State's Muslim population was the result of ‘illiteracy' or ‘low literacy' within that community — and, therefore, not a consequence of rampant illegal immigration from Bangladesh.
