Govt has lost the momentum

In an introduction to the dramatised version An Englishman Abroad on the travails of the diplomat-turned-spy Guy Burgess, living in exile in a grey and drab Moscow, Alan Bennett made an interesting observation. Had Burgess, he argued, lived till a ripe old age, he would have been welcomed back and turned into a celebrity in England.
