Responsibility, not mine alone

For a long time, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been held up as an example of an honest leader in a less-than-honest political system. He still may be so, but after his statement on the controversial coal block allocations on Monday, the sheen has gone. It is not the denials of wrongdoing that are less than credible—in any case they don’t stick—it is the dodgy temper of the statement that is disturbing. Much of what he said was riddled with contradictions.
