That the insidious mobile phone messages and videos, which led to the unprecedented exodus of people of the North-East from several Indian cosmopolitan cities in these past few days, emanated from Pakistan, comes as no surprise at all. According to a Union Ministry of Home Affairs report on the role of the social media in whipping up communal passions in the country in the aftermath of the Assam violence, a majority of the doctored images and videos that were used to threaten the North-Eastern people with retaliatory violence were uploaded from Pakistani IP addresses.
