India needs GM crops

The parliamentary standing committee on agriculture wants a retreat on genetically-modified (GM) food crops. That is a bad idea. India needs genetically-engineered crops to meet the demand for both food and non-food industrial crops that will vastly increase as the population grows and incomes rise.
