Light unto the darkness

The recent collapse of the national grid, affecting large parts of Northern India, could be due to several reasons. A commonly-held view is that it was on account of overdrawls for pump sets by farmers in the agrarian states of UP, Punjab and Haryana. Detailed investigations can only reveal whether the collapse is due to overdrawls and/or due to technical faults in the grid system.
