A false index

The latest monthly estimates of industrial growth, for June, derived from the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), reveal declining output, as they have for some time now. Yet, the lacklustre trend seems fundamentally at odds with quarterly corporate results that show buoyant topline growth. The glaring disconnect between industrial growth and company sales appears to corroborate the charge that data quality of the statistics office is unreliable, even suspect.
