Poor excuses for a conflict

After more than a week of violent clashes, normalcy is returning to Kokrajhar and other affected districts of Assam. The cost of the clashes has been heavy: at least 40 persons have been killed and a couple of lakhs have been uprooted from their homes. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described the episode as a “blot” on India.
