Why Mulayam did the deft flip-flop

On one Wednesday Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav announced three names, including that of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, as the candidates for the presidential election. He declared that these were the joint candidates of the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress. When he made this announcement in New Delhi he was flanked by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
