In Andhra Pradesh, Congress is thrashed

The rout of the Congress in the by-election to 18 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh has put the party in a situation where it could sooner than later lose its majority in the House. Although the defeat was anticipated, the Congress had been hoping against hope for a miracle. After all, 16 of these seats had been held by the party before its sitting MLAs were disqualified by the Speaker for switching sides to the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress.
