If power distribution companies begin to cut back on purchase of power and regulators do not revise tariffs, plans for energy security would go for a toss. The latest evidence of this regressive behaviour is in the FE lead story of Thursday, which shows that discoms are beginning to cut back on power purchases from exchanges even at the peak of summer since their realisation is lower by up to 11% for each energy unit they sell. The discoms’ behaviour is quite understandable.
