Plug leaks, act fast on food, fuel fronts
The consumer price index rising to 10.4 per cent, up from 7.4 per cent, at the start of the year is yet another signal that India’s people will have to get used to living with high inflation until the government ceases to delude everyone it is doing something about controlling the fiscal deficit, the root cause of inflation and now of the depreciating rupee. It is a pity that even though crude and commodity prices are coming down globally, India cannot take advantage due to the depreciating rupee. India is playing a losing game only because the government is failing to act. For over a year it has been saying it is taking action, but it is evident it is only watching from the sidelines, as though it was a hunter waiting for its prey.
