There is plenty of stuff floating around on inter-state socioeconomic performance. Let us ask a different question. Does political composition of a state government make a difference to its socioeconomic performance? Since 2001, states have been governed by three types of political configurations: what may roughly be called NDA or NDA+, what may be called UPA or UPA+, and Left parties. Since 2001, each of these three configurations has formed a state government, either independently, or as part of a coalition, though sometimes, that government may not have lasted for the full period of five years. Performance depends on indicator used to measure it.
