Bluestar martyrs' memorial to be built at Golden Temple
Just two weeks ahead of the 28th anniversary of ‘Operation Bluestar,' the apex clergy of the Sikh community laid the foundation for a memorial of “martyrs” in tribute to those who fell during the June 1984 Army action conducted at the Golden Temple complex to neutralise armed militants led by their firebrand leader, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. After the ‘bhog' (completion) of ‘Akhand Path' (uninterrupted recital of the scriptures) the ‘Panj Piare' (five beloved ones) performed the ceremony of breaking the earth at the spot close to the twin ‘Nishan Sahibs' in the courtyard facing the Akal Takht building where Sant Bhindranwale's body was recovered.
