Poor political management and lack of communication between coalition partners have affected the UPA-II's functioning. In that context the BJP could have stolen a march over its political rivals by claiming, plausibly, that the erstwhile NDA regime under Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a much more cohesive coalition handling inner- and inter-party tensions better. Coming in the way of such a rosy image, however, is internal party strife afflicting both central and state levels of the BJP.
