Can Didi seize the moment?

Between India and its near-east policy stands Mamata Banerjee. The chief minister of West Bengal has successfully stalled any hopes of India being able to transform relations with its near-east or develop its northeast region. This will have huge implications for India's chances of positioning itself as an Asia-Pacific power or as a credible alternative to the Chinese juggernaut.
