Absence of governance
On Tuesday, May 1, a boy, exercising in school, fell unconscious at Ramgarh in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district. He was taken immediately to the local primary health centre. There was no doctor or paramedic. The male nurse, who was present, was obviously no substitute for a qualified doctor. Fortunately, the boy’s was a case of exhaustion and prolonged exposure to the sun and no more. He has recovered. One, however, wonders what might have happened if he had severe cerebral haemorrhage or something equally serious. He might have been in the hereafter by the time he could be removed to the nearest hospital at Bhowali, which is 45 minutes by car.
