Leave AFSPA alone

Given that insidious attempts are being made by some political parties to whittle down the provisions of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and render the law toothless to fight terrorism, the Supreme Court has done well to underscore the importance of the legislation. At the same time, the court has also ensured that the immunity to Armed Forces personnel under the Act does not come in the way of their being brought to justice for any illegality they may have committed while performing their duty.
