Sharing the gas burden
Falling gas production from the offshore fields in the Krishna-Godavari basin (KG-D6) is not just about a dispute involving the operator (Reliance Industries) and the Government. It is also about having to drastically revise our hitherto comfortable assumptions about gas availability in the country. Domestic production, which rose from 87 million cubic metres a day (mmscmd) to 143 mmscmd between 2006-07 and 2010-11, was further projected to rise to about 210 mmscmd by 2016-17.
