Much ado about nothing
The Congress's res-ponse to the Kamraj-Plan-that-never-was could serve as a good illustration of why the party needed it in the first place. For an incumbent desperately trying to ward off perhaps premature signals of a sinking ship, such an idea was a sign of hope. The Congress's anxious denial, though factually correct, reinforced the image of a collecti-vity that could not handle hope. This episode served to remind everyone why the Congress cannot embrace what it needs so badly.
