The commandant of the CRPF’s 170 Battalion, Nisar Mohammad, is trapped in a lethal hide-and-seek game with the Naxals in the deep jungles of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. He is on the wireless all the time, desperate to know how many of the soldiers in his charge are still alive. According to Baweja, stepping out of the camp on patrols and cordon-and-search operations is fraught with the risk of being blown to bits by a mine or simply ending up shot up in an ambush.
