The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority has approved almost four-fold increase in the user fees for passengers flying in and out of Delhi airport, which would range from about Rs 200 to Rs 1,100 depending on sector and range. The hike comes after a whole decade, save for a 10% increase in 2009, and so may not be unreasonable or out of line with that charged at other major airports in the region and beyond. But it is clear that we need far more transparency in the process of determining user charges.
