Bofors back with a bang
Twenty-five years after India was stunned by revelations of bribery in the controversial Bofors field gun deal, the ghost of that scandal continues to haunt the Congress and its first family. Despite all efforts to prevent a free and fair inquiry into the scandal, the Congress has failed to rid itself of the stain of the Bofors payola. The investigation may have been scuttled and the prosecution of Ottavio Quattrocchi, Italian ‘businessman’ and close friend of the Nehru-Gandhi family, allowed to unravel, but that has not absolved the guilty and their patrons.
