Mission impossible?
Three recent developments suggest that Sonia Gandhi is back in the driver's seat in the Congress and the dawn of the Rahul era will have to wait for some time. One is the swift suspension of eight Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha for disrupting proceedings over the Telengana issue. The punishment, surprisingly harsh and definitely unusual considering MPs disrupt the House all the time, was mooted by Sonia who marched to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Parliament House office and called for a meeting with key aides, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and her political secretary Ahmed Patel, to discuss a strategy for implementation.
