Speaking truth to power

John Maynard Keynes believed that economists should speak truth to power. He was never one to mince words, with some of his more polemical works lit up by caustic barbs at his opponents in the UK Treasury and the Bank of England. He often fought his battles in the open. One can see the same attitude in the current generation of US economists across the political spectrum, with Paul Krugman being a prime example.
