A favourite theme at international conferences now- adays is whether Asia's rise signifies the West's decline. The current focus on European and US economic woes, however, often obscures the serious political and resource challenges that make Asia's future trajectory far from certain. To be sure, Asia, with the world's fastest growing economies, fastest rising military expenditures, fiercest resource competition and most serious hot spots, holds the key to the future global order.
