The Trinamool Congress legislator who complained to the New York Times on condition of anonymity that Ms Mamata Banerjee “does not listen to anyone” and “just does what she feels like” was revealing more about himself and the quality of his party’s personnel than he realised. It’s true, as he said, that “delegation of power is a no-no”. But if “she does not trust anyone”, as he added, it may be that the Chief Minister doesn’t feel there’s anyone in her ragbag entourage of arrivistes and adventurers worthy of trust.
