Shameful capitulation

To the abiding shame of this nation of more than a billion people, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mr Naveen Patnaik, has once again capitulated in the face of Maoist terror and, instead of refusing to negotiate a deal with the marauders, succumbed to their patently unacceptable tactics. To argue, as Mr Patnaik and his effete regime will no doubt do, that there was no other option but to agree to the terms set by the Maoists in order to secure the release of two hostages — an Italian national and a BJD legislator —held captive by them would be the least convincing.
