Mirwaiz Umar Farooq: Stripped of his mask

Much as he tries, Kashmir’s separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will find it difficult to shrug off the charge of being “supported and controlled” by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. Soon after that charge was made in a recent statement by US Attorney Neil H MacBride, the Mirwaiz indignantly claimed that the movement he leads in Kashmir Valley reflects the “aspirations” of the people. Although he did not elaborate on those “aspirations”, it is quite clear from the context in which he has given the clarification that they had to do with freedom from Indian sovereignty.
