Over the past three decades, the world poverty map has been completely redrawn. The World Bank recently released an update of poverty estimates from 1981 to 2008 based on 850 household surveys in 130 developing countries. The numbers are simply astounding. While in some regions poverty has remained stubbornly high, the declines in other regions are huge.
