On a review trip to Chhattisgarh sometime back, Union Minister for Home Affairs P Chidambaram had said it was “condemnable” if big business houses were funding the Maoists. He added it was up to the State Governments to take action against them. It may be recalled that the Essar Group has a huge plant at Bailadila in Dantewada to ferry iron dust to Vishakhapatnam through an underground pipeline that passes through Maoist-infested areas. The police have charge sheeted the company for providing ‘protection money’ to the Maoists to ensure smooth operation of the pipeline.
