Bribing the chief!

The Army chief 's revelation that he was offered a bribe by a lobbyist in connection with the purchase of defence equipment is, at face value, an extremely worrisome pointer to the state of affairs when it comes to the extant system for defence purchases in India. The fact is that such purchases, globally, remain one of the most corruption-prone areas, with many examples of kickbacks in such deals surfacing every now and then in various countries.
