Dealing with Maoists

The abduction of two Italian nationals, followed by the kidnapping of BJD MLA Jhinna Hikaka, by Maoists in Odisha, have served to highlight that red terrorism remains a grim reality in large swaths of the country, particularly in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. What the abductions also underscore is that a State Govern-ment that toes the line of least resistance in dealing with Left-wing extremism is bound to come to grief repeatedly.
