Indian railways needs a Marco Polo!
The railway budget had generated considerable euphoria on account of the reform agenda initially spelt out. A closer scrutiny of the railway and general budgets reveals that they contain a double whammy for Indian railways or as they say zor ka jhatka dheere se! The railway budget, as initially presented, was important primarily for the roadmap drawn up for reforms and also much-needed investments. But the reforms are now in a limbo and the funds provided only highlight the government’s continued neglect of the railway system.
