Skewed priorities appear the norm across party lines. Not only the UPA's rivals but even its self-professed backers seem bent on creating a climate of political uncertainty in the country, when the effort all around should be to get on with governance and legislative business both at the central and state levels. If several state leaders have kept blocking central initiatives by brandishing the "federalism" card, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's gone a step further. Flush with UP's poll victory, he exhorted SP cadre last week to prepare for Lok Sabha elections, which he hinted could take place within a year.
