Politicians eagerly awaiting an invitation from the Congress to join UPA2 should be wiser by the experience of Dinesh Trivedi who until recently was the country’s Railway Minister. The radical changes Mr Trivedi proposed in the Railway Budget, including a fare hike for all classes, could never have been attempted by him alone. He certainly did have the support of the Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Finance, both of whom claim to be reformists.
