Putting Railways on track

One must hand it to the Rail Minister, Mr Dinesh Trivedi, for doing what had not been done in the last 10 years. His Rail Budget for 2012-13 has hiked passenger fares for the first time since Mr Nitish Kumar, now Chief Minister of Bihar, did it in 2002-03. And it's not a small hike. Though couched as only an extra 3-5 paise per km for non-AC travel, it actually works out anywhere between 15 to 25 per cent depending on distance, while being 10-15 per cent for AC commuters.
