West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is sending her state cabinet colleague to attend the swearing-in of Parkash Singh Badal as Punjab chief minister in Chandigarh. It is telling that that statement should be seen as a trigger of insecurities, fraught with political charge, almost scandalous. But why should the attendance of a CM or her representative in the ceremonials held to usher in a leader of another state be seen as the stuff of political intrigue — and so what if both belong to regional parties that are members of two opposing coalitions?
